Welcome
Mt. Eccles Elementary School is a Kindergarten through sixth grade NCLB Blue Ribbon School, providing quality education for over 200 students. The school has classroom teachers and teacher for music, fifth and sixth grade band, physical education, swimming once a week, special education, and English Language Learners. All students have their own classroom laptop computer. All the classrooms are equipped with SmartBoards and surround sound systems.
Mt. Eccles Elementary values partnerships that increase our ability to meet the needs of all students and enrich their education with expertise from our community. We work in unison with the City of Cordova who provides the use of the city swimming pool, library and museum programs. Mt. Eccles partners with Prince William Sound Science Center to provide students with hands-on science classes, field trips, include our students in “Shorebird Festival” activities. The Native Village of Eyak provides a Culture Week experience each year. Cordova Family Resource Center partners working with students throughout the year. The school provides maturation education learning for the fifth and sixth graders. Morning music instruction is available on Friday's before school.
Students at Mt. Eccles have the opportunity to participate in Student Council and compete in various contests approved by the State of Alaska and the federal government such as the Battle of the Books and Spelling Bee. Our Homework Club sponsored by our Indian Education grant on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday's from 3:30-4:30 p.m.
The Mt. Eccles food service provides students with a free nutritious breakfast and lunch each day through our community eligibility program. A program that partners us with local fish processors provides fish on the menu once a month. In addition to hot meals, we serve fresh vegetables or fruit in the classrooms as a snack a few times a week, which is provided through a federal grant.
Our school is using RULER for social emotional learning. RULER is a developmentally appropriate and comprehensive curriculum that contextualizes and builds students’ emotional intelligence within their experience of the world.
